Creativity
New media fosters creativity in many ways. The architecture of new media
that we are seeing today is in my opinion what truly inspires this new
creativity of music and the way we are consuming the music and how we are
creating the music as well. Sasha Frere-Jones says "Armed with free time
and the right software, people are rifling through the lesser songs of pop
music and, in frustration, choosing to make some of them as good as the great
ones." (The New Math of Mashups from The New Yorker Magazine 2005.

Because of the ability we have acquired through new media and different modes
of creating we have become empowered to be not only the consumers of music and other
creativity like filmmaking and photography but to be the producers of the
content we want to hear. I have many a friends who have been the producers of
mash-up music, you-tube videos, and even film making/ photography because of
the accessibility of new media and the ideas that were projected onto them with
the abilitites of new media. The fact that almost everyone has a Facebook page
and is posting photos of themselves, links to other sites with media and video
content, etc. is a small but huge in itself example of how everyone is able to
be the inventor and sampler of new media and be a part of it. This shows a lot
of insight on how much new media is affecting us by pushing us to be creative
without realizing it. When we customize settings to be what we want them to be
and look how we would like them to look we are creating and thinking about
being creative all the time.
